Biometric measures
Biometric measures tend to
refer to a group of
techniques that measure a
single output such as
galvanic skin response (GSR).
It is recognised that there
is a relationship between
activity in the sympathetic
nervous system detectable by
electrodes placed on the
finger, and emotional
arousal, although it is not
possible to precisely
identify the specific
emotion being elicited. The
GSR can be relatively
sensitive to emotions in
some individuals, but not
all. Fear, anger, startle
response, orienting response
and sexual feelings are all
among the emotions which may
produce similar GSR
responses. GSR is a useful
tool for fast evaluation of
the emotional saliency of a
stimulus, prior to more
in-depth analysis with EEG
or FMRI.s.
